One thing that has been roaming all over the internet for the last few months is the leadership and presidency of Trump. People have been talking and comparing his leadership and its effects on different industries.

Trump’s second term as president started on January 20, 2025, and is going to influence almost every sector of the State. Not only does the economy, but the industrial sectors are going to get full-fledged effects of his rules.

How is his rule going to impact the construction industry and its corresponding sectors? Let’s find out three major ways.

The rising cost of construction and equipment material

Trump is actively thinking and making policies on the international trading processes. These trade policies are going over-rule the construction industry as the imported materials cost will roar up massively.

After his statement on the international trade policies reformation, experts are worried about their businesses as the huge price increase on the items is obvious. As per his orders, the tariffs have released an almost 25% increase in construction material costs, which are getting imported from Canada or Mexico.

According to an analysis by Crowell & Moring, megaprojects like bridges, highways, and renewable energy installations could be most harmed by such rules. Similar tariffs have already had an impact on the construction sector during Trump’s first term, leading to significant rises in the price of steel and aluminium.

In this unexpected and unpredictable time, the stakeholders have advised the construction and heavy equipment dealerships to manage their cash flow very smartly keep their money rolling and not make unnecessary investments that have a higher risk of drowning.

Strict immigration policies may further bring a skill labour shortage

The construction and equipment industry is already going through a tough skilled labour shortage time and all the companies are trying their best to bridge the gap in the industry. All the seasoned workers are retiring soon and no one is there to replace them with the same level of expertise and skills.

At this time, trump has planned to put a strict rule over the international immigrants. This will reduce the number of people being entered in the industry with some skill and expertise.

What do you think will happen next? Obviously, the labour shortage will further put the burden on the contractors and the industry overall.

Trump has put the following rules for immigrants:

Deportation of unauthorized immigrants

Restricted the work visa issuance for international job seekers.

Project Labor Agreement (PLA) might get deregulated

Another way, that Trump’s presidency might affect the construction and equipment industry is the deregulation of the Project Labor Agreement (PLA).

Non-unionized contractors, who comprise more than 80% of the US construction workforce, have long been prohibited from bidding on federal projects by PLAs. Trump could increase competition and lower project costs by removing mandatory PLAs and opening up bidding opportunities.

Organizations like the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), which contend that PLAs increase government costs while excluding local contractors, would support this deregulation.

All these regulations and rules will collectively impact the construction industry revenue which might further get challenging for the construction contractors to overcome their already existing troubles like labour shortages.

However, the stakeholders are trying to bring more robust strategies for the heavy equipment dealers and the construction contractors to stay ahead of the time and can make proper foolproof plans for long sustaining in the market.
