Caterpillar is Moving Its Corporate Headquarters to Irving,Texas

Four years ago, Caterpillar moved its corporate headquartersto Deerfield, Illinois. Now, they are moving again and this time to Irving, Texas. Caterpillar made the announcement about the relocation of its global headquarters to Irving on June 14. The company’s headquarters are leaving a state where they have been based since the formation of the Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1925.

In 2018, the headquarters of the company moved to Deerfield from Peoria.Caterpillar has several manufacturing plants throughout the state as well which are not included in this announcement.Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued a statement following the announcement voicing his disappointment over Caterpillar moving their headquarters out of Deerfield.

The company is planning to start the move this year.Jim Umpleby, the CEO and chairman of Caterpillar, expressed his belief in this move being in the best interest of the company. He believes the move will support Caterpillar’s strategy for profitable growth and will also be helpful in building a more sustainable world for the customers.

Illinois is still a home to several Caterpillar manufacturing plants, and they still have the largest number of the company’s employees worldwide.When Caterpillar announced that it would be moving to Deerfield in 2017, Peoria was shocked.The company had been building equipment in Peoria for 112 years. In mid-2018, the company moved its global headquarters to theCorporate 500 office park.

The company says that they have had a presence in Texas since the 1960s. Earlier in the year, the electric power division of Caterpillar also moved to Irving, TX. Jason Kaisercited global access to customers and dealers and centralized proximity to DFW and Love Field airports when announcing that move. The company is hoping to attract new talent and improve the global access to their clients, employees, and dealers with the move.
