Caterpillar’s MH3050 Material Handler: Uptime, Efficiency, and Comfort

Caterpillar has introduced the MH3050 material handler, designed to enhance uptime, efficiency, and operator comfort. This equipment ranges from 53 to 55 tons and can reach up to 59.25 feet depending on the boom and stick configuration. Here are the features that make this material handler stand out:

Improved Electrohydraulic System

The MH3050 boasts an improved electrohydraulic system designed for quicker cycle times, allowing it to handle more material per shift. This feature is particularly useful when working with scrap metal. The material handler also offers a 25-kilowatt generator kit and magnet attachment as optional choices.

Standard Load Weighing and Safety Features

The new Cat MH3050 features high swing torque, typical lowering check valves for the boom and stick, and SmartBoom technology that allows the boom to move up and down without requiring hydraulic oil flow. These features ensure that the front linkage remains in place when there is an abrupt drop in hydraulic pressure, allowing the operator to focus on moving the stick and grapple. The material handler is equipped with 1,800-lumen LED work lights mounted on the chassis, boom, and stick.

The Cat Payload weighing system generates a live weight estimate when the machine picks up a load with its grapple or clamshell attachment. Additionally, the operator can configure E-fence parameters to prevent the machine from traveling through restricted areas. A Cab Avoidance function keeps the attachment from coming into contact with the cabin, further increasing operator safety.

Cabin Amenities

The premium cab of the MH3050 has been redesigned by Cat with a hydraulic riser and a new dampening system that reduces vibration and fatigue. As the material handler is controlled by a joystick, there is no need for a steering column, increasing the operator’s space in the cab and facilitating entering and leaving. The absence of a front blind spot also improves safety. The operator enters their specific Operator ID PIN code to power up the engine, and the material handler recalls their individual joystick settings.

The cabin is equipped with large tempered glass windows, and standard right-hand and rearview cameras add to its high level of operator visibility. An optional 360-degree camera system provides an additional view of the machine’s surroundings. The operator can operate the equipment and check its operational status using the cab’s 10-inch touchscreen and jog dial. Cat’s Product Link remote fleet management is also automatically supported.

Fewer Maintenance Needs

The MH3050 is equipped with a Cat C9.3B engine with a 346-horsepower rating that can run on biodiesel up to B20. The after-treatment system requires no maintenance, allowing the motor to comply with EU Stage V and U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions requirements. The cooling fan for the engine automatically reverses direction to remove dirt from the radiator cores, relieving the operator of one distracting chore.

Cat has implemented further modifications to increase the uptime of the new MH3050. The more efficient hydraulic oil filter has a lifespan of 3,000 operational hours, and new anti-drain valves protect the hydraulic oil from contamination during replacement. Each fuel filter has a 1,000-hour replacement cycle that is synchronized. The machine’s moving parts, from the swing bearing and cab riser to the end of the stick, are automatically greased by Cat’s usual auto-lubrication feature.
