The used equipment market has another month to reveal something amazing in the used wheel loader and excavator sector. The consistent upward trend in both sectors is something remarkably wonderful and optimistic, especially for the leading brands. The North American construction market is heavily relying on such equipment for their regular construction project endeavour.

Which brand took the lead in August?

When it comes to the brand for the reliable and strong heavy equipment, only a few names can be counted on fingertips. It is evident that the wheel loader and the excavators are the major parts of the construction projects, that the contractors can’t even imagine proceeding without employing them. In this category, only a few of the brands excel and already have consumers’ trust.

As per the August data came from the used equipment market, Caterpillar, Deere, Volvo, Komatsu, and Case were among the leading brands in the used wheel loader and excavator sectors.

Caterpillar outshined the market and other brands by taking the lead with sales of $318.1M for used wheel loaders and $7.19.4M for used excavators. The company is the go-to option for many construction companies searching for used heavy equipment because of its wide global reach and stellar reliability record.

Deere, however, was in the second position with sales of $244.6 million in excavators and $148.7 million in used wheel loaders.

Other manufacturers, such as Volvo, continued to be major players in the market, with sales of $105.6 million for wheel loaders and $125.7 million for excavators.

Komatsu and Case also demonstrated strong sales of wheel loaders ($58.1 million and $46.2 million, respectively) and excavators ($150.2 million and $47.7 million).

With nearly twice as many wheel loaders and three times as many excavators sold as its nearest rivals, it is evident from this data that Caterpillar is still the market leader. Deere and Volvo are also holding a dominant position and making substantial contributions to the market.

What percentage of inventory is sold in major US regions?

The major US regions that never disappoint when it comes to the sale of used equipment are once again booming in August. These regions were leading their way in selling used wheel loaders and excavators amid the potentially high demand.

With 15.50% of the market share overall, the West region had the greatest sales of used wheel loaders for sale. Excavator sales in the region also performed well, but a little less at 11.50%.

Excavators were in great demand in the South East, accounting for 18.60% of all used excavator sales. With 14.30% of sales, this region did well in terms of wheel loaders as well.

Sales of wheel loaders and excavators were concentrated in the North Central region, which demonstrates the steady demand in these markets.

Significant contributions were also made by the North East and South-Central regions, accounting for 13.50% and 12.20% of excavator sales, respectively. These regions made up 10.90% and 11.10% of wheel loaders, respectively.

Major Findings and Interpretation of Data

Caterpillar’s Dominance

With sales data significantly surpassing competitors, Caterpillar maintains its dominance in the used wheel loader and excavator markets. This is a reflection of Caterpillar’s solid performance and longevity reputation, which extends into the secondhand equipment market.

High South-East Demand for Excavators

Excavator sales in the Southeast account for 18.60% of the region’s total, suggesting a substantial construction industry, presumably fueled by regional infrastructure and urban development initiatives.

Balanced Regional Performance

Although preferences vary depending on the particular needs of the area, every U.S. region exhibits a significant demand for both types of equipment. Wheel loader sales are strongest in the West, whilst excavator sales are strongest in the South East.

Wrap up

The August 2024 market for secondhand wheel loaders and excavators highlights the continuous need for high-quality machinery in the United States. Although it is clear that Caterpillar is the industry leader, other companies like Deere, Volvo, and Komatsu also have significant market share. Regional sales demonstrate a balanced demand throughout various locations, with some exhibiting a greater need for a given kind of machinery. The demand for reliable and reasonably priced machinery will probably keep the market for used heavy equipment thriving as the construction industry expands.
