Equipment burglary can never be overstated as it is a major crime leaving the equipment owner at great loss.
A recent event happened that made the news headline when a stolen excavator was found unexpectedly.
On October 20, 2024, a semi-truck carrying a large excavator collided with a flyover on Detroit’s Interstate 94, leading Michigan State Police to investigate an unusual scene.
Not only did this event delay the traffic but exposed many hidden stories and chains of events. A burglary crime was immediately reported and solved by the Police that was registered a while ago.
How did the Semi-Truck hit the bridge?
To begin with the scratch, it was reported that the semi-truck was moving towards the I-94 close to Frontenac Avenue. On its way, the truck was hit severely by the overhead bridge and caused an accident.
The truck was carrying an excavator which spilled off of the truck and blocked the traffic for quite a few times.
The hit was hard as fuel and hydraulic fluid were seeping from the impact that left the excavator on its side. Although there was little damage to the overpass, the accident forced authorities to temporarily close the route for cleanup, which drove Michigan State Police to act quickly. This hit was not just overseen as an accident but revealed many hidden stories that police have been finding for a long.
The driver left the spot immediately after the hit
Most interestingly, the police became more curious when the driver of the semi-truck left the scene immediately after hitting the overpass. This has made the situation more suspicious.
The police officers found that the excavator he was carrying in his semi-truck was a stolen property and probably was being transported to another location.
There were no leads regarding the truck driver’s location from a search of the neighbourhood. Although police are still looking into the event, it was difficult to find the culprit right away because there were no witnesses or obvious leads at first.
The struck semi-truck was carrying a stolen excavator
Surprisingly, the excavator turned out to be stolen goods throughout the investigation, not merely missing freight.
Only a few days prior, the equipment’s owner had notified an area of the Detroit Police Department that the wheel excavator for sale had been taken from a Seneca Street job site.
Nothing else, but the whole scenario suddenly took a dramatic scene and helped the police miraculously to find the stolen equipment. Such events are not so usual but when happen, they become the headlines of the news.
After the issue has been resolved, the reconstruction and rebuilding work has started. The bridge was not damaged majorly but needs minor repairing to avoid major accidents.
It took a while to clean the road and open it for the traffic at the westbound lanes of I-94. The fluid spill over and road cleaning were the major tasks that the workers did promptly.
Is the investigation still going on?
Michigan Polic is continuously working on the case and investigating the while story to finally arrest the driver of semi-truck, carrying the stolen excavator.
The facts point to a complicated case involving unidentified drivers, abandoned evidence, and stolen stuff.
As investigators try to join the pieces together on how this stolen machine wound up on I-94, they want anyone with information about the event to come forward.
This type of incident is a mere example of the significance of securing machinery at work sites to prevent theft and serves as a reminder of the dangers involved in transporting heavy equipment. Police are striving to prevent similar events in the future as the investigation is ongoing.
