The police are on the lookout for a man alleged to have undertaken many heavy equipment thefts. The thefts were committed in as many as four states and involved the same man. During this spree of alleged thefts, equipment worth more than $325,000 was stolen as confirmed by the office of the Shreveport Police Department in Louisiana.
News of police looking to apprehend the wanted person by the name of Andru Fitzgerald appeared on the 4th of November when the police department on its Facebook page released details of the man wanted in connection with the theft of a skid steer and trailer, following an investigation into the incident. Further details on the theft came to the fore revealing that the same man was wanted in connection with other thefts committed in different states.
The police had earlier been informed about the stolen heavy equipment, including a skid steer and trailer on October 4. It was learned that the alleged suspect had rented the heavy equipment but had failed to return it on the due date.
However, the trailer was eventually located in Fort Worth, Texas using GPS technology. The police failed to track down the stolen skid steer as its tracker had powered down. The police have confirmed these developments, saying that a warrant had been issued for the suspect’s arrest on charges of theft amounting to more than $25,000.
However, the police have a much larger task at hand since the suspect is also wanted in three other states, including Alabama, Arkansas, and Tennessee. This presents a serious challenge to the police to nab a suspect who is alleged to be a serial thief.
As of now, the Shreveport police said their investigation revealed that warrants for the suspect had also been issued in Benton, Arkansas, for his alleged involvement in heavy equipment theft.
Also, the suspect was indicted in Tennessee. The charges related to stolen equipment worth more than $300,000. Similar charges were also filed against him in Alabama.
The police have termed the suspect a serious risk based on his record. The police maintained that “given his extensive record and multi-state criminal activity,” the suspect posed a serious risk. The police also appealed to the public for help in tracking down the suspect.
“Authorities are seeking public assistance in tracking down this serial thief,” read a statement released by the Shreveport Police Department on its Facebook post.
“Anyone with information on Andru Fitzgerald’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-7300 or reach out to Caddo Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373,” read the post.
Last month, the Michigan State Police recovered a stolen excavator, following an accident on the overpass on Interstate 94 in Detroit. Its driver had fled the scene after the semi truck suffered an accident that knocked the equipment onto the road.
